Cole AKA @thesalted_rim - Cultivating Success in the New Blood
Wednesday Oct 25, 2023
Wednesday Oct 25, 2023
In today's episode, I sit down via phone with Cole (AKA Thesalted_rim on IG). Cole has been in law enforcement for around ten years and has served as a patrol officer and SWAT operator. Cole's page on Instagram caught my eye because right in the bio section of his page he mentions mentoring future police officers. We all have mentors, but we can also all think of a person (or team of people) who are the saltiest group in the department. While he may like salted rims (I'll leave that one alone), Cole does not want to show a salty attitude towards the new guys. Cole's work as a mentor is a prime example of what we can all do to ensure that those still willing to sign up for the job are treated right and educated in the careers that they've chosen. Cole and I also talk shop, the 2020 riots, and starting new units in a small agency.

Wake up, survive, go to bed -Jason Mow, retired police officer and defense contractor
Wednesday Sep 13, 2023
Wednesday Sep 13, 2023
Jason Mow began serving his community in the late 90s with a local police department before making the hard decision to leave policing. He found his way to the State Department as a defense contractor and spent thirteen months in Afghanistan teaching police tactics to the local police force. At the conclusion of his service in Afghanistan, Jason returned to Arizona and went to work for Phoenix Police Department where he went back to his roots as a patrol officer. One night as Jason was about to end his shift, he heard of another officer needing assistance. As Jason gave chase, he suffered critical injuries to his legs which put him in bed for the better part of three years. Jason scratched out a mantra while he lay in bed:
Wake up, survive, go to bed.
Jason's Warrior Ethos guided him through a long and challenging period in his life, as it can guide all of us. Line Seven reminds us that our minds are our most powerful weapons.

Generational Differences In Policing
Tuesday Aug 08, 2023
Tuesday Aug 08, 2023
Solo episode today about generational differences in policing. Now, I'm just one millennial cop, but I've wanted to respond to a few things I've heard about how we're lazy or won't come in on our off time to fill a beat. This is not a confrontational episode shaming the older generations - this is an attempt to point out what our (millennial) thought process is.
Stay safe, and I'll see you on the road.

I've been gone long enough! I was sick, I've been busy with life, but I am back with another episode, and have plenty more to come!
I woke up at 0300 today unable to fall back asleep, so I got up, poured a cup of coffee and decided to use my time to record an episode. As I ate breakfast and rubbed the sleep from my eyes, I came across a story on several UK officer's social media pages regarding the London Met banning the thin blue line flag. Officers in the UK have it tough, and so this response, while based entirely on my personal opinions, is my way to show them support.
Stay safe out there, and thank you for continuing to support the channel.

Glenn Topping - policing from the Cold War to post - 9/11
Tuesday Jan 24, 2023
Tuesday Jan 24, 2023
On today's episode, I spoke with Glenn Topping. Glenn retired from a south Florida sheriff's in 2009 after serving for 25 years on patrol as a deputy and sergeant. In that time, he also worked as a crisis negotiator, narcotics interdiction detective, and he also started one of the first active killer response training programs in the US in the late 80s. Glenn shared stories about baring witness to a drive-by shooting at a nightclub and about using a tow truck for something other than its intended purpose! Prior to his time as a deputy in Florida, Glenn served int he US Army as a military police officer, and was deployed to West Germany during the height of the Cold War. Glenn has offered numerous books, both fiction and non-fiction, and has two more books coming out this year. Find Glenn's books on Amazon, at Barnes and Noble, or on Kindle or Nook e-reader systems.

Tuesday Jan 17, 2023
Tuesday Jan 17, 2023
Welcome back to The Modern Cop Podcast! After much needed time away with family and a pretty hectic work schedule, I'm kicking off 2023 by sitting down with Mike AKA @helicopter_trunk_monkeys to discuss his very niche role in policing as an air rescue medic for the Arizona Department of Public Safety. Mike discusses his decision to leave his position as a fire captain with Gila River FD and transition over to AZDPS as a new guy to fulfill his goal of becoming an air rescue medic. Find Mike on Instagram @helicopter_trunk_monkeys and check out AZDPS's air unit @azdps_rangers.

All right, all right, all right with Tased and Confused

Tuesday Sep 27, 2022
On today's episode, you'll hear from Kenyon - the content creator behind Tased and Confused, a TikTok channel seeking to bridge the gap between police and the public through honest talk and more than a little humor. I absolutely loved talking with Kenyon, and I hope you enjoy the episode!
The #goodcopsgiveaway will start seeking donations on October 1st, and the nomination period will open up around the end of October / beginning of November. The giveaway is intended to provide gear, training, and some cool swag to our brothers and sisters in policing that work for agencies that cannot afford to provide them with needed equipment. When an officer has to purchase their own firearm, flashlights, uniforms, boots and body armor, there is not a lot of money left for them to get other helpful items or spend some of their money on leisure. The #goodcopsgiveaway will have three winners announced around December 1st. You can nominate yourself or another officer via direct message on Instagram. Winners will be required to show proof of employment as full-time sworn peace officers.

Today's episode is a departure from anything I've done before. I took to IG live and opened the floor for anyone to speak. We had a good conversation about changing the ego-driven aspects of police culture. In today's day and age, there's a time to kick ass and a time to build each other up. This needs to occur at all levels.
This week, I'd like to shout out the Dallas Crimes Against Children Conference. I'm excited to attend and to learn from some top notch instructors. Thank you all for listening to the show!

Cultivating Confidence with Josh of Force Frontier
Wednesday Jul 20, 2022
Wednesday Jul 20, 2022
On today's episode, I sat down with Josh, founder of Force Frontier. Force Frontier is a training organization which draws upon Josh and his team's years of service in policing to "make good people dangerous." Josh has spent the last several years as a patrol officer, DT instructor, and SWAT team member in the State of Ohio. Force Frontier currently conducts training in Ohio, Indiana, and Kentucky.
I do accidentally refer to Josh's company as "Force Options" several times, and I apologize for that!
I look forward to seeing Force Frontier grow into the organization Josh and his team know it can be.
